Korero in Korimako

This term the Korimako students have been learning basic conversational Te Reo Māori.

They have learnt the different ways to say hello, how to ask what someones name is, to ask where someone is from and to ask how some is. They have also learnt responses to these questions.

Here is a conversation two Korimako students had:

Tamariki Tahi - "Kia Ora" (Hello)

Tamariki Rua - "Tena Koe" (Hello to one person)

Tamariki Tahi - "Ko wai tō ingoa?" (What is your name?)

Tamariki Rua - "Ko Josh toku ingoa." (My name is Josh)

Tamariki Tahi - "Nō hea koe?" (Where are you from?)

Tamariki Rua - "Nō Ōtautahi ahau" (I am from Christchurch)

Tamariki Tahi - "Kei te pēhea koe?" (How are you?)

Tamariki Rua - :Kei te hiakai ahau." (I am hungry)

To learn this, students firstly went on the Toku Reo website and took notes. Following this they spoke to other members of the hub.

Māori@Marshland - Pukeko

This term Pukeko have been working on their Pepeha. We have created a visual Pepeha incorporates their mountain and river. In our hub we have created two different types. Boyce and Sim created a textured artwork with pastel and dye. Calvert and Smith created a sketch with pastel and dye. Students are at their beginning stages of learning their pepeha. They will continue to learn and practice their Pepeha next term.

Māori@Marshland - Kupu for Term Toru

Welcome back to Term 3! This term we will be focusing on colours and items of clothing. Hopefully after a few weeks you will be able to mix and match the colours and the items of clothing.

Māori@Marshland - Kiwi

Cecile Lyon In the kiwi hub we read the legend of 'Maui and the sun'. We imagined we were Maui catching the sun and created these Art works. For Matariki we made kites that were inspired by the book 'The seven kites of Matariki'.
