Māori@Marshland - Pukeko T2

Matthew Boyce In Pukeko we have been learing about the different stories about Matariki, created goals for the Māori New Year, and kites. We also wrote stories and poems about Matariki. We also did farming as our inquiry unit and were able to incorporate the harvesting that happens around the Maori New Year.

Riki Culley Celebrating Matariki Thanks to Kasey and Daisy from Toroa who shared their wonderful mahi on Matariki. The task required tamariki to look at the names of the stars and their meanings, liken them to animals and develop an image with the animal faces in the sky in the shape of the constellation. Definitely some very insightful thinking from the girls when they explained the rationale for their choices.
